“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.”

Timothy 4:12

Today many children and young adults feel sidelined and unheard in the World, their own communities and sometimes even their families. In the Wolverton Benefice we are lucky to have a good number of active children and young adults who contribute in so many valuable ways to the life of the churches and the wider community. We try to listen to their voice, their opinions and their needs and to learn from each other and grow together in faith and love.

The youth discussion group began in  2010 with a group of young people who have grown through St George’s church, and has since grown to incorporate others.  We currently meet weekly from a pool of 11-16 year olds.    There is plenty of fun and crazy games, and some engagement with thoughtful films, music etc., and some deep discussions about faith on a variety of important and challenging topics.

In the words of two of our young people “We have fun and discuss things that are important to us as young people”.  The young people have always engaged deeply with the group, and we are keen to harness this energy in involving them in various aspects of church life including experimental worship, youth services, and bringing justice issues that they are passionate about to the church. A group ofour young people go to the Greenbelt festival each, and following a fantastic weekend in 2012 they plan to repeat this again 2013.
